FAMOUS FRENCH PERFUMES AND DESIGNERS

The most famous French Perfumes and designers are probably Chanel No. 5 by Coco Chanel and Joy by Jean Patou. Both of these French Perfumes got a fair share of marketing and PR to launch and boost sales. And today, the reputations of these famous French Perfumes add a significant contribution to the name recognition of their famous French designers.

Although now thought to be one of the most famous French designers, Coco Chanel wasn't quite as well known when her perfume, Chanel No. 5, was launched in the early 1900's. It's said that the famous French perfume was what brought Coco Chanel to notoriety as a famous French designer. Chanel No. 5 was created for Coco by Ernest Beaux and was the first perfume to bear the name of a designer. This famous French perfume became popular soon after its introduction, got re-popularized when Marilyn Monroe suggestively told the press that it was the only thing she wore to bed, and remains a popular profit-maker for the Chanel company today.

Whereas Coco Chanel gained fame outside of her perfume efforts, late designer Jean Patou is probably most known for his famous French perfume Joy. Launched in the early 1930's, Joy was, and continues to be marketed as "the costliest perfume in the world." It's packaged in a crystal Baccarat bottle and claims to use over 10,000 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses to produce a single ounce of the famous French perfume.

There are many other famous French designers who make perfumes as well. Some of the more popular French Perfumes are by famous French designers Yves St. Laurent, Givenchy, Dior, Lancôme and Thierry Mugler.
